I was given my very own puppy for my 13th birthday (more years ago than I care to remember!) and quickly joined my father at the local dog training classes. Suzy and I entered club competitions and progress awards and despite my lack of knowledge, we had great fun.
Since then I have had the privilege of sharing my life with many dogs - large, small and in-between. I have competed in obedience and agility and although I no longer wish to compete, have fun training in heelwork to music, trick training and a bit of agility.
I take my professional development very seriously, wanting to keep up-to-date with the latest developments in dog training as dog training has come a long way since the out-dated methods still practised by some trainers. I am a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (www.apdt.co.uk) and hold the Diploma in Companion Animal Behaviour and Training from the Centre of Applied Pet Ethology (www.coape.org). I am also a registered animal trainer with the Animal Behaviour & Training Council. I have the City and Guilds 7-307 adult teaching certificate. I regularly attend courses, workshops and seminars with internationally renowned professionals such as Sarah Whitehead (www.gooddogcompany.co.uk), Ken Ramirez (www.kenramireztraining.com), Grisha Stewart (www.functionalrewards.com), John Rogerson, Turid Rugaas, Dr Nicholas Dodman, Kathy Sdao, Nicole Wilde and Victoria Stillwell to name a few!! These keep me up-to-date with advancements in dog training and enable me to share with the owners of dogs I teach now and in the future.
